ALTERNATE MAKES IT POSSIBLE
As the pandemic broke out, graphics cards prices soared. By then i did not even know what effects the pandemic would have. I was lucky I ordered all the components pre-pandemic.
2019 DECEMBER
A BIG UPGRADE IN technology
I bought my last computer in 2013. A few months ago my TITAN GTX died after a long working life. Now it is time to upgrade again. My last computer had 64 GB RAM 8 cores. On my client project this RAM filled up within minutes and the CPU's were at 100% for hours. 4K After Effects animations take their toll. This system will have 32 cores and 256GB of RAM plus 2 graphics cards and 20TB of storage plus 5TB SSD. I bought all the components and 2 guys from friendly computer store next door put it together professionally.
The problem I have with all my computers is that I always have to buy a hybrid system, that I need a big RAM for 2D animations and big Photoshop files, big processor and graphics cards power for rendering and modeling and huge hard disk space for video footage. I also need large SSDs to be able to edit video quickly. This pushes the price of the system up immensely. Of course I can "recycle" some stuff from the old system but the new components are just very expensive.
The new case looks more like a refrigerator than a computer. I hope that the new system will meet all expectations, but as experience shows me, I will always use the new system up to its performance limit in a very short time. When you make "digital art", the requirements simply increase with the power of the hardware you have available. If you previously built models with 40 million polygons, you now go to 80 million polygons without even noticing.
I am curious to see where the new equipment will take us. I am curious how it looks assembled!
I've already made some provisions and bought the rendering software "Keyshot", so that I can render properly in the future with a direct connection to Zbrush.
Here you can see another "Version 02" model. A demon named "Ostriz". Version 01 was the very first model I built for the game.
Here is a work of art that I built from an old print in a before/after picture. Such pictures are always an exercise for cutting out elements, reconstructing holes and getting the feeling of the original. It is a narrow edge that you have to balance with each of these artworks.
I wish you a happy new year 2020!
I hope you will reach your goals next year and learn a lot of new things.
