HUNDREDS of new miniatures

The new look of the human miniatures is quite amazing. Also they stick to each other very nicely with the new base and magnets.

2019 MARCH

a week of painting

After many failures and tinkering I have managed to print all new miniatures. But this was only half the way. Afterwards they had to be painted. Infinite hours of “Netflix audio books” later that was done as well. I think I did not need more than 5 days to finish everything. Still I always have the biggest pain with doing things twice. It feels repetitive and developing new stuff is always much more satisfying. Still: I don't paint corpses. If something is not good, I throw it away and do it again.

The package with the leather goods...

...is finally here. I'm thrilled. The pictures say a thousand words. The coins, dice and markers look great in them.

my new complete pirate treasure chest

The small bags are made of goatskin. They are very soft and of high quality. i don't think you can break them if you don't try on purpose.

look & feel

When 3D stops to look like 3D. I am very curious how ZBrush will develop further!

new zbrush render options

ZBrush has released new render options and I have invested a lot of time to test them. There are a lot of artists online who combine and experiment with a lot of these features to create a really great look. This is in my opinion a missing piece of the puzzle to make really great illustrations for cards and the rulebook.

You don't get these results in Zbrush alone. I also had to do some post-processing in Photoshop. It doesn't look like a lot of work now, because it wasn't a lot of work :D

I will improve my skills bit by bit and do a lot of little "Quick&Dirty" tests until I have found a style I like so much that I want to keep it for the whole game.

a new game piece

The hourglass is currently being tested. It is currently connecting to the Armageddon Clock deck and may be a currency for re-rolls in combat.

The great thing about such tokens is that once you have them designed and printed and see them on the field, you can come up with 1000 good ideas how to use them. It's important to keep an open mind and to be willing to experiment.

RESIN & MAGNETS

I am not stingy, but sometimes I order too little material. Sometimes because I think "It doesn't work anyway, but you have to test it!" So far I've been lucky that most of the ideas I've come up with have worked or worked better than I thought they would. The new magnets now have almost 5 times the mass of the old magnets and for almost the same price! This is a great deal.

Working with Public Domain artwork

I've been working with artwork from long dead artists for quite some time now. I rearrange them, digitally improve the quality, re-draw and combine them. Since most of these old artworks had something to do with religion or "the divine", many of them are suitable for further processing. The works of art fire my imagination and often card texts from the pictures are reverse-engineered. So every card has a win-win situation and the design is done incredibly fast with the pipeline I built. You can see examples in the gallery.

the armageddon clock

I am still amazed by the fact that you can design and produce a new game piece in the matter of hours. When designing a game that is so much reliant on the "experience factor" for the players, it is very nice to see a prototype on the board before continuing to think more about the piece.

If it sucks, you can scrap it right away.
