THE PAINTING OF THE NEW COINS

2020 AUGUST

TESTING OF THE NEW PRINTER

Now that so many test games have taken place, I finally wanted to make sure that the second and final version of all the dice and coins is produced.
There are different types of coins in "THE PIT": resource coins in silver and gold for angels and demons, obols, action point tokens, reversible power and skull coins.

This gives me the opportunity to test the new printer extensively. I can distinguish between the different levels of detail and also test when the printer gets too warm and how it reacts to different workloads. It is also important to document how much time is needed for which level of detail and how many layers, so that I can roughly estimate how long it will take when I print larger miniatures later.

i have to say that i am more than enthusiastic about the new printer. its build plate is very tiny but the details are breathtaking. i'm very sorry that you can't see it very well in the photos in this post because the sub surface scatterin in the gray material swallows a lot of detail, but hopefully later when these miniatures are painted a bit, you'll be able to see it well.

NEW COINS with the new printing pipeline

Here you can see how the visible details come out beautifully when an ink layer is applied to the coin. Small dots give the coin a very valuable appearance. As the coin is only 4 cm high in reality, the level of detail is even more impressive.

At the moment I use a very easy process for painting the coins: An industrial grade, anti scratch, molotow-spray paint and citadel washes that I apply with a brush.

Additionally I apply contrast colors and patina for a more realistic effect.

Once you paint those you will see it is really easy and you can paint all of the coins in about 5 hours.

NEW OBOLS

A new kind of coin that can be used for re-rolling dice and "betting" on quests.

getting bolder with the printing

When the first tests with the coins went so well and the printer printed all the coins in impeccable quality, I ventured further and built a new demon. unfortunately, I couldn't paint it this month because my real job demanded some of my attention.

The pandemic is in full swing and so of course the film business is taking a heavy hit on the chin.

But I didn't let it spoil my mood and still worked as much as I could. In the gallery you can see more of what I've been up to this month. I hope you enjoy the new level of detail and quality as much as I do.
