I had to throw a lot out of the window just to start this new. It was a very big step for the game. It creates more space and give the combat system a home.
2020 JUNE
BACK INTO THE PROBLEM. DEEP!
Once again, I've gone very deep into this problem with the combat deck!
I have really put everything into solving this problem this time. I have been holed up for days testing, changing, rolling the dice, drawing dozens of little cards.
I made a big "DinA4 card" which I could stare at for hours and on which I could arrange different symbols. Each card had to be constructed according to certain rules, which are not visible to the player.
Since human- and monster characters use different dice, each card had to be playable with 12-sided and 8-sided dice. The dice not only have a different side number, but also different symbols on them.
With both types of dice, an exciting experience for the player should emerge.
NEW COMBAT CARDS
So I had to create over 30 different combinations of elements that are still visible on the cards in card sleeves in the middle of the board.
I don't want to say how many hours this took, but even for a guys who does not mind to sit in front of a computer for 18 hours it was very painful.
I think it will work but a final test is still to come.
The system is based on the idea, that the results of the dice will move physically like troops. Players will use trickery and re-rolls to outsmart the opponent during the fight.
Whoever plays it better and who is also a little lucky with the dice (to a lesser extent) receives bonuses that strengthen their own ranks or harm the opponent. The combat cards are placed next to each other and it is even possible for a player to use symbols on the opponent's card.
I wrote the rules for this system during its development depending on where the journey took me. It was a very nice process.
The result is 42 completely different cards that I'm very proud of.
DICE are simulating moving armies
...on a very small space. It is basically an abstract battlefield that is populated by dice during combat. Who wins combat, may use symbols on the opponents card. Combat cards always combine differently.

This causes a big problem: The game board!
Since from now on there would always be two cards used in battle, I ideally needed a dedicated space on the game board where these cards could be placed. Because of the previous space layout of my game board this was impossible. That means I had to reposition, redesign and re-produce the entire game board.
But Eureka! After days of reading and staring I managed to create not only a space in the middle, but also to solve many other problems that I think the game still had. The Early game is slower now and offers more space to the humans, the Mid Game can be initiated faster and the Endgame initiates crucial conflicts faster. A win on all fronts. In theory! This all has to be tested now!
I am really looking forward to it.
Production of the Proxy Game Board
Since I want to have the next wood prototype made from teak wood, but the virus prevents me from visiting my fellow wood enthusiasts at the moment, I decided to make a game board from acrylic glass. I think it looks quite ok. What I think is great is that it is transparent and you can see the cloth folds through the board. That gives the new material a bit of old charm.
AN ACRYLIC PROXY FOR THE NEXT VERSION OF THE BOARD
As you see there are a wide variety of combining the boards.
