SITTING IN THE SUN TO MAKE PAINFUL DESICIONS SOFTENS THE BLOW
2020 MAY
A lot of testing, and killing darlings
In the last few test games I paid attention to how often I had to explain certain things. It turned out that I had to explain a system very often that I had previously considered waterproof: The combat system.
So I wanted a new combat system that also feels like a fight. So I developed a new system... Spoiler Alert: 10 days work without convincing result. Well... I'll have to redo that. The basic idea is good, but it still doesn't work properly...
The change of the Battle Deck also entails further unpleasant changes... For example a total re-design of the whole game board! OUCH!!!! Well... its unavoidable. Then I just throw away some carved wood boards that have cost me a sh*tton of money.
I worked really hard on this. But after 54 cards were finished (I had to distribute over 600 symbols on the cards), I realized that the system does not work and is no fun. Heavy hit, but sometimes you have to take it!
Maybe this is also due to the corona nervousness, but I will turn this into a working system!
Artwork tests
To get some distance between the failure and myself, I tried some graphics and created these “much too colorful” artworks for one of my demons. The demon is a variation of the Pied Piper and I wanted the cards to have something "Children of the Corn" like.
The colorful theme also fits the children's theme, because the demon makes human children turn against their parents.
The exact rules don't exist yet, but I find the theme very interesting.
I will now get back to work and turn this disappointing combat deck into a victory. I hope you all are well! Wash your hands and wear masks!
Stay healthy!
AND AGAIN: GET IT OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM...
...and if you think you can use it, you can still come back to it later.
