FINALLY THE NEW COMBAT DECK MADE IT TO THE PLAYTESTING TABLE
The new battle system is finally on the table and I couldn't be happier. I designed 6 different decks until I arrived at this solution. I have distributed over 3600 symbols on 300 cards of which 42 are now left. All of this took me more than 3 months. I think it took so long because I needed to read more about various systems and mechanics. But now it is a system that I am happy with.
If a system is bad, or misleading, if it's clunky and doesn't offer players interesting choices, then it needs to go and be redone.
This combat system, as it is now is really something else. It is a system that actually feels like troops moving over a battlefield. It uses cards and dice but it is still skillbased. Also the player has to decide when to take a Re-Roll and when to "push his luck".
"THE PIT" is a game that always gives you something when you lose something.
You therefore have to think carefully about whether it is not wiser to lose a fight tactically. It can often give a player a decisive advantage, as for every human lost they receive a soul that can awaken a monster in a realm.
So you often have to decide whether to tap into an earthly resource by winning a battle. However, you often have to slaughter the enemy army completely, which means that the souls of the defeated earthly army join an enemy monster army and return at some point.
This balance of earning profit immediately or postponing it for later profit is one of the most interesting decisions you have to make each turn.
